ACAPINOY: “Awesome” “Uplifting!”
SAN FRANCISCO – The 2nd Quarterly ACAPINOY was successfully hosted by the Golden Gate Church Christ last Sunday, December 6, 3:00 pm at the GGCC Auditorium, 701-8th Avenue in this city.
“I’m edified in the ACAPINOY singing,” said a young Hispanic lady who shared her comment in the Assessment Survey. “In general, this is one of the best events I have attended. This is a blessing!” said a preacher from San Francisco.
“The 2nd Quarterly ACAPINOY was awesome. It was truly uplifting!” echoed an evangelist from a black congregation. “Much better and more spiritual than I expected,” shared a middle-aged Christian lady.
Highlights of the 2nd Quarterly ACAPINOY were the short talk on Acapella Singing by Martin Sharp, Minister, Bayview Church of Christ in San Francisco; brief talk on “Amazing Grace” and author by Bert Tupas, Evangelist, North Metro Church of Christ, Sacramento, California; brief talk on “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and author by S. Bill Jimenez, Founder/President, Aro Ministries; brief talk on “Blessed Assurance” and author by Paul Crites, Evangelist, Lake Merced Church of Christ in San Francisco. Dr. John Quiniones, Ph.D., preacher-evangelist from the San Fernando Church of Christ, La Union, Philippines, was the Program Facilitator.
Other highlights of the ACAPINOY event include: Opening Prayer by James Quitoriano, Evangelist, Golden Gate Church of Christ in San Francisco; Welcome & Opening Remarks by Art Gabot Madlaing, Evangelist, Golden Gate Church of Christ in San Francisco; Closing Hymn by Jeff Walker, Evangelist, Uptown Church of Christ in San Francisco; Closing Prayer by Bruce Morgan, Elder, Sonoma Avenue Church of Christ in Santa Rosa, California.
ACAPINOY hymns were led by the following song leaders: Nathaniel J. Tuliao from the Lake Merced Church of Christ, San Francisco; Jairo Torres from the Hispanic Ministry; and Romer Javonillo from the North Metro Church of Christ in Sacramento, California.
ACAPINOY, a brain child of Art Gabot Madlaing, is acapella singing of favorite Christian hymns and Gospel songs (originally sang by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Pat Boone) in English, Spanish and in the major Philippine dialects like Tagalog, Ilokano, Pangasinan and Cebuano.
The 3rd Quarterly ACAPINOY will be hosted by the Uptown Church of Christ, 949 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA 94117 on March 7, Sunday, 2:30 pm.
ACAPINOY: A Glimpse of Heaven
The first ACAPINOY (a capella singing in English, Spanish,Tagalog, Ilokano, Pangasinan) was successfully held last August 23, 2009, Sunday, 3:30 p.m. at the Golden Gate Church of Christ Auditorium in San Francisco, California.
Christians and guests from as far as the Philippines, New York, Sacramento and San Jose, California attended the historic and uplifting event. Christian hymns and Gospel songs originally sang by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and even Pat Boone were led by song leaders from various congregations in Northern California.
Romer Javonillo, song leader who came all the way from New York, led the Christian hymns in Tagalog and Pangasinan. Nathaniel J. Tuliao, song leader with the Lake Merced Church of Christ in San Francisco, California, led the Gospel songs in English.
Jairo Torres, evangelist with the Hispanic Ministry, led the Christian hymns in Spanish.
Dr. John Quiniones, Ph.D, visiting preacher-evangelist with San Fernando Church of Christ, San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, led the Gospel songs in Ilokano. Manny Ang, song leader with the San Mateo Church of Christ in San Mateo, California led some Gospel songs in English. Lincoln Strattan, song leader with the Oceanview Church of Christ in Pacifica, California, led some Christian hymns in English and Tagalog.
Bert Tupaz, preacher-evangelist with North Metro Church of Christ in Sacramento, California, shared some historical facts on a capella singing as practiced by the early Christians. S. Bill Jimenez, president and founder of Aro Ministries, shared his personal experience and benefits of a capella singing. Here’s what they say about ACAPINOY:

“It’s like home to me hearing and singing the Gospel songs in Philippine dialects,” said an alto singer from Daly City, California.
“I enjoyed the event very much,” said Lee Ann Wong from San Francisco, California.
“We should have more of this ACAPINOY,” suggested a base singer from Pacifica, California.
“Wonderful fellowship!” said Grace G. Impson, member of the Metro Church of Christ in Sacramento, California.
